Historic Missions

When most people think of missions they summon up an image of Spanish colonial structures with red-tiled roofs. Those missions inspired an entire style of American architecture, and several such sites in California and Arizona are included below. But missions in other areas were just as important. The Whitman Mission preserves a tragic piece of history from the Oregon Trail and Schoenbrunn was the first doomed attempt by Moravian missionaries to settle Ohio. Father Jacques Marquette explored the Great Lakes from his mission in Michigan and one of the oldest buildings in Kansas is the mission to the Shawnee. Perhaps the most dramatic is the ruin of Abo Mission Church, rising like a ghostly fortress, in remote Salinas National Monument, New Mexico.

These are just to get you started.  If you find others, send then on and they will count as points as well
